Today, we enjoyed one of my favorite grammar lessons--prepositional phrases! To become more familiar with this topic, students made paper airplanes and took them outside to fly them. Each time their planes landed, the students wrote a prepositional phrase to describe where, when, or how they landed. Some examples include on the sand, over the bars, and in the basketball hoop. It was a fun way to learn grammar!
Today, we learned about having a growth mindset. We talked about learning from our mistakes and realizing that when we can't do something, we just haven't learned how to do it YET. To challenge the students to use a growth mindset, they were given the task of building the tallest tower they could using paper cups and craft sticks. There were some creative designs and many opportunities to use a growth mindset!
Here's some back to school fun in Room 9! The students worked in small groups to find similarities and wrote them down on index cards. Then, they were given the challenge of building the tallest tower with all of their cards. It was such a fun first day of third grade activity!
