Denise Bain graduated Magna Cum Laude from California Lutheran University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies, and she decided to continue on at CLU to receive her multiple subject teaching credential. Mrs. Bain received her Master's in Educational Leadership through the American College of Education. She previously worked at Mates as a substitute teacher, as well a one-on-one aide. This is Mrs. Bain’s fourth year as a fourth grade teacher at Mates, and she is looking forward to working with the wonderful students, parents, and staff that this school is comprised of. In her spare time, Mrs. Bain loves traveling, spending time relaxing at the spa, shopping, and enjoying quality time with her friends and family. Mrs. Bain can’t wait to collaborate, learn, and grow with her students throughout the school year.

Our class is still in need of newspapers for our paper mâché project on Friday. Thanks!

Scholastic Book Order Online Code

Book orders went out a few days ago in the Wednesday folder. I forgot to write the online class code on the back. So, if you would like to place an order online, our code is P9RML

Happy reading!

Science Lab Supplies/Art Project Supplies

Room 13,

The students will be doing an engineering lab in science class on 10/10 that will require some paper towel and toilet paper rolls. Please send these in from now until then if possible. We will also be doing an explorer project in which we need empty square tissue boxes. These are not needed for awhile, but please send them in if you have them.

Thanks so much!

Student Survey

Parents: Please don't forget to return the pink survey about your children that you received at Back to School Night. They are so helpful!

Thank you!

Reminder: Math Test

Happy Wednesday!

Just a reminder that students will be taking their first math test tomorrow on Place Value. It has been written in their student planner since Monday. They should be familiar with the following concepts:
  • Place values (ones, tens, hundreds...)
  • Value of a number (e.g. the 6 in 56,000 is worth 6,000)
  • Standard form, word form, and expanded form of a number
  • Rounding numbers
  • Comparing numbers
  • Ordering numbers (least to greatest, greatest to least)
They are welcome to study in the manner that best suits them. Some ideas are IXL online, a practice test, or practice problems on a whiteboard/paper.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I am looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow night from 7:15-8:15 pm at Back to School Night.

Best,
Mrs. Bain

Sept. 2018 Newsletter

Please view the attached classroom newsletter. A hard copy will also be sent home in the Wednesday folder, as well as posted outside the classroom door. NOTE: Back to School Night is Thursday (even though the newsletter says "tomorrow", as that will be true when the copy comes home).
Today, the students submitted information about their summer using a Google Form. They logged onto Google Classroom, listed where they traveled and described what they did. This map shows all the different places that Room 13 went to!
