Field Trip to the Chumash Museum

What an amazing day we had at the Chumash Museum! The kids were so well behaved and engaged in the lessons they taught us about the life of the Chumash People. Our day began with a nature hike to the Chumash Village. After that, we made necklaces with abalone shells and explored the artifacts in the museum. Thank you to all of our parent drivers/chaperones! We couldn't have had this experience without your help!

August 21, 2018

Dear Room 16 Parents and Students,

I would like to welcome all of you to Room 16 and 3rd grade! I can’t believe summer is already over, and we are beginning another school year. I enjoyed meeting so many of you at the Back-to-School Bash on Sunday, and I look forward to a fantastic year with your child.

A little about me…this is my 21st year as an elementary school teacher, and my 10th year at MATES. Previously, I taught for the Hueneme School District (grades 2nd-5th). At home, I have two children; Jacob is in 9th grade and Lucas is a 6th grader this year. My favorite thing to do outside of school is spend time with them, whether it’s riding bikes, hiking, attending their sporting events, or just being home.

The 3rd grade team has been busy planning together, and we have a very exciting year ahead of us. Your child will bring home their “Wednesday Folder” every week containing their completed work, as well as, other important information from the school office, the MCN, and me. Please review the school work with your child and send the folder back to school the following day.

Also, your child will be provided with a Student Agenda book. All of their homework assignments and important dates will be written in there. This agenda will come home when we begin homework on Monday, August 27th. Your child’s Homework Binder, Homework, and Agenda should be brought to and from school every day. Please initial at the bottom of each column after you have reviewed your child’s homework.

I do allow children to have a water bottle at their desk, especially during these hot days. I ask that it be a sport top water bottle to help eliminate the possibility of spills.

If you have any questions or concerns you wish to discuss with me, I am more than happy to meet with you before or after school, but please contact me ahead of time so that I can make sure that I am available. I can be reached via email at or you may leave a voice message for me on my classroom phone (805) 495-7037 x216.

More information about the school year and classroom volunteers will be provided for you at Back-to-School Night on Thursday, August 30th from 7:15-8:15 p.m.

Thank you in advance for your support, dedication, and commitment to your child’s education. I look forward to a terrific year!
