Sally Tuchman earned a BA in Theater Arts from George Washington University and her teaching credential from CSUN. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from American College of Education in the summer of 2012. Her teaching career began [18 years ago!] in the Las Virgenes Unified School District teaching 5th grade there for three years at Chaparral, Willow and Sumac. Ms. Tuchman is thrilled to be teaching 5th grade at MATES and loves working with all her wonderful MATES colleagues. She brings her love of the arts and technology to life in her classroom with unique and creative experiences. When Ms. Tuchman is not busy teaching, planning lessons, or grading, she loves to exercise, read, cook & bake, and spend time with her wonderful family and her rescue cat, Ruby and goldendoodle, Ollie.

We enjoyed this beauty right outside our classroom today.  Without the rain there would be no rainbows!
The crowd of 5th graders around Lori at recess! They didn't want leave and had lots of questions for her.  She was a fabulous speaker, with a wealth of knowledge about the Internet and your digital tattoo.
We had an awesome and informative assembly today with Lori Getz. We chatted afterwards and I made a list of some student ah ha moments:
  • If apps are open on your phone, they're always listening
  • When kids say "watch me", "watch me" to parents, they usually don't really want to watch them
  • Everyone who has Internet can access LOTS of your info
  • Chain mail is BAD!  DO NOT forward it!!
  • Turn off comments on Youtube - you don't need feedback, positive or negative
  • Your account is your responsibility - don't share your password with anyone but your parents
  • When you are planning to use technology for fun, ask yourself ~ do I have time for this now, or there something else I should be doing?
  • Do things that help you feel good about yourself like exercising, eating healthy, and doing kind things for others

Terrific holiday chorus concert with Will on drums and Jillian S., Kenna, Kori, & Lotus on xylophones for one of the songs.
We are so happy to be back at MATES learning, creating, discussing and laughing!  What a productive couple of days it's already been. I have been so entertained by all the wonderfully creative end of book projects for The Sign of the Beaver.  Ask your kiddos about the talk shows ~ they have been really fun. Today we had the pleasure of taking a pic with Jacques McClendon, former NFL player for the Miami Dolphins, now director of player engagement for LA Rams.

Warm Wishes from Ms. Tuchman

Room 12 Families,

I am thinking of all of you during this difficult time and hope that you are all safe.  I have been evacuated from my home in Agoura Hills since 2 a.m. on Friday and have been in Newport Beach since then. My family is all safe. At one point the fire was very close to my neighborhood, but thankfully my house is safe! I hope that is the case for all of you. It will be a while before we all see each other, but I wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving and I will see you soon.

~ Ms. Tuchman

Stay Safe Room 12 Families!

I hated to miss school today and the fun run, but I had no voice and I knew I needed to take a day to rest up. Now, we’ve just heard that school is closed tomorrow due to the fires. Please stay safe and I look forward to seeing the kiddos on Tuesday.

What a good sport Sunshine Sarah was!  Because we had 100% log-in, we got to pie her in the face.  We gave Jackson the honor since it was his birthday.  See video below!
