I recently discovered this great movie that puts the notion of giftedness in perspective.  As a parent of three children with very different learning styles and abilities, and an educator who wants all my students to have a growth mindset and strive to be their very best, I'd recommend all parents watch this terrific video.

Rethinking Giftedness

Students are expected to read for 20 minutes each night Monday-Thursday.  I may not always write it on the agenda, but it is assumed that students will be reading regardless of whether it's on the agenda or not.  We have lots of regular work to include each day on our agenda, so reading can be an automatic yes.  If you love reading (like me) then feel free to read over the weekend too.

We have been lucky enough to have assemblies with Brooks Gibbs for the last two years.  I love his message and have been showing his video to my students for years.  It was wonderful to see him speak in person and I think the kids got his message and his use of humor.  If you would like to see his video, please click here. Mission Statement

I believe that all students can succeed and fulfill their personal potential. It is essential that we strive to be life-long learners. I want my students to be as well prepared for middle school as they can be. We will focus on RESPONSIBILITY this year and by having students take ownership of that responsibility I know that they will embrace the challenges and succeed this year, in middle school and throughout their lives. I also want my students to build stamina to work through difficult problems, taking risks because they are not afraid to fail. I value my connections with my students and I believe that through those connections I can make a difference in their lives.
