Dear Parents,

Next week we will build our Mission models in the class. Please send in your child’s building supplies by Monday, January 31st. We will be building the missions on Tuesday, Feb. 1st, and Wednesday, Feb. 2nd. They will need a sturdy base to build on. You can get a standard-size foam board at the Dollar Tree. Please do not buy the Mission Kit at Michaels. We will provide your child with the boxes they will use to create the mission compound. However, if your child wants to buy small accent supplies such as a fountain, flowers, trees, people, or animals they can, but they don’t have to. I will be showing them how to make all of these things out of paper.

This week marks the end of the progress report period. This means that we are halfway through the second trimester. Students who are not currently passing any subject will receive a progress report to notify parents of improvements the students can make before the end of the trimester. They will be coming home on Friday, Feb 4th. If your child is meeting all standards they will not receive a progress report.  In addition, this is a good time for your students to check their AR Reading points. We are about halfway through the trimester, so they should be approximately halfway to their reading goal. Thank you for helping your students stay on track with their reading goal.

Please keep in mind that the math concepts are getting harder this trimester. We are finishing up on fractions and starting decimals. Their fraction test will be coming home on Friday.  If your student does not pass a test, please have them correct their work and turn it back into me for more credit.

Valentine’s Day is coming up. We will celebrate on Monday the 14th by exchanging Valentines only. If your student would like to participate in the exchange, please have them bring in enough Valentines for everyone to have one so that there are no hurt feelings. We have 22 students total. I will send home a list of students' names if they want to address them to specific students, but they don’t have to.

The Winter Gallery is on Thursday, February 10th from 5:30 – 7:30. Please look at Wednesday’s e-folder for more information. Every student will have two projects on display.

Saturday, February 26th is STEAM Day. It is a chance for families to get together and work on STEAM Activities. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Again look for more information about this night in upcoming Wednesday e-folders.

Remember there is no school on Feb. 18th and 21st.

                                                         Best Regards,

                                                            Mrs. Fiss
