To prepare for such an event, the Mates Safety Committee created make believe scenarios of events and injuries that could possibly happen during a real earthquake. In the classroom students practiced the drop, cover, and hold protocol. Once the pretend "earth shaking" stopped, students walked to our evacuation area on the lower blacktop while Mrs. Olshever and Mrs. Walker set up a Command Post. Also, part of the simulation is the Search and Rescue Team and a First Aid Tent. We even had a few students with pretend injuries who needed to be carried on a stretcher to First Aid. The students and staff did an incredible job practicing this drill.
