Our class had a super St. Patrick's day making paper mache volcanoes! Next week the students will make their volcanoes erupt.
Last week the class started using a new method for tracking the words while reading--FINGER FLASHLIGHTS! On Thursday we turned out all the lights and had a reading party with our flashlights. The kids loved it! :)
A couple of weeks ago, we had a special guest, Ms. Elizabeth, visit our classroom. She has been collecting rocks for over 40 years and brought a fantastic and diverse collection of rocks to share with the students. They got to explore the rocks and learn about the interesting places Ms. Elizabeth has traveled to find them. It was such a wonderful learning experience.

On Friday the students became surgeons! After learning about contractions, they performed a "contraction-ectomdy" on their patients. They all were such excellent surgeons!
This week the students worked together in small groups to create a timeline of Abraham Lincoln's life. They all did such a great job!

The winter art gallery was such a fun night! The students' art was so beautiful and they should all be so proud of their hard work!
Last week we started learning about the three types of communities (urban, suburban, and rural). They are currently in the process of demonstrating their new knowledge in a communities flip poster. Next week they will be writing an opinion paragraph about which community they think is the best.
We had such a fun week learning about polar bears. We continued to learn about the text features found in an informational text. On Wednesday they got to experience how having blubber helps keep a polar bear warm in the arctic environment. The students also started working on their first art project for the winter art gallery later this month!
Today we had an assembly with Grandma Rose. She taught the students strategies for conflict resolution and how to deal with teasing. The students really enjoyed her talk—and some students even got her autograph! Grandma Rose will be speaking at the Parent Empowerment Night tonight in the MPR at 7:00. Our class had such a magical day riding to the North Pole on the Polar Express! Thank you to all the parents for making the day so special for the students! Your help and time is greatly appreciated.
Today the class did a "time hunt" in math. The students had to find and answer question cards that were hiding all around the room! They had a blast!
