Welcome to MATES!

The PTA extends a warm welcome to the new families joining the MATES community and hearty “welcome back” to our returning families. We are thrilled our MATES community has grown this past year and are looking forward to “Soaring to New Heights” with all of our wonderful volunteers!

The MATES PTA dedicates itself to the enrichment of every student with the help of parents, teachers and staff. PTA members volunteer their time and talents in many different ways: working in the classroom, serving on committees, helping in the library and working directly with children in our PTA-sponsored programs. There are many different programs and opportunities to enrich the educational experience for all children here at MATES.

What MATES PTA Provides

Throughout the year, your child and family will enjoy a variety of programs including:

• Talent Show
• Winter Gallery
• Road Trip
• Read Across America
• Reflections
• Book Fair
• Art at Lunch
• And so much more!

The PTA holds fundraising events throughout the year to help provide programs for our students and resources that supplement the vision of our school. There is no mandatory participation in PTA fundraisers and parents may pick and chose how they wish to support the school. This year’s fundraisers include Direct Donation, Gift Sales, Bingo Night, Walk-a-Thon and Carnival. Additionally, families can participate in easy, no-effort fundraisers through programs with eScrip, Ralphs, Target, Office Depot, Box Tops, Jamba Juice and Golden Spoon.

Why Get Involved?

PTA is our nation’s largest advocacy organization and promotes the welfare of children at home, school and in the community.

A national PTA parent survey found the top three reasons members join PTA are:
• To be involved in their child’s education.
• To work with teachers.
• To be a positive role model for children.

Whether you have any of the above reasons or thoughts of your own, parent involvement is the core of our success. Volunteer opportunities are plentiful, require varying amounts of time and are available throughout the year. Every minute we work together adds up for the benefit of our children.

Upcoming Events

The Back to School Night, Wednesday, September 9th, provides parents the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher and learn about the upcoming school year. The PTA will conduct its first association meeting at the start of the evening. We will outline and adopt the programs and fundraising events for the year and approve our 2010-2011 budget.

Should you have any questions about how to get involved or about PTA, feel free to contact me directly by e-mail at rachellemieux@verizon.net. I look forward to meeting you and your family!

Warmly,

Rachel Lemieux
