Meet the Board

Our board of directors is comprised of nine parents and community members who serve voluntarily for two-year terms.

Chris Shultz, President, June 2012, Community Board Member

Chris Shultz graduated with a B.S. in Psychology in 2001 and later earned a Masters in Business Administration (International Business) from Madonna University in 2002. Chris provides expertise in Project Management, Strategic Planning, Education & Training, eLearning, and Technology from his over 10 years spent in the Automotive and Biotechnology industries. With this valuable experience Chris will help create and drive the vision for the use of technology in the classroom.

Monique Foster, CFO, June 2011, Parent Board Member

Monique Foster is a member of the Founding Board of Directors and also serves as CFO for MATES Ms Foster graduated with a B.S. in Accountancy from California State University, Long Beach. With over 20 years of experience of accounting experience including the public sector, Ms Foster has the finance and budgeting experience to provide a viable fiancial plan for the Charter School and Non-Profit Corporation.

Susan Consales, Secretary, June 2011, Parent Board Member

Susan Consales graduated with a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and subsequently with a B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design. Susan’s years as a graphic designer have earned her numerous design awards, among them inclusion of work in the permanent collection of the Library of Congress. Currently, Ms. Consales runs a design consulting business where her strategic design and problem solving skills lead to the creation of unique, business relevant design solutions.

Ron Bauer, June 2012, Community Board Member

Ron Bauer is a 13-year resident of the Conejo Oaks community, who served LAUSD for 34 years at six secondary schools as a math teacher, counselor, coordinator, assistant principal, and principal; serving his final two years as a Secondary Director in the West LA area. Post-retirement experiences include principal mentor, administrative academy instructor, and interim administrator and principal at various LAUSD sites. Currently employed as Chief Administrative Officer of Inner City Education Foundation, he administers fifteen K-12 charter schools, serving over 4,500 South Central Los Angeles students. Mr. Bauer hopes that his considerable school management experience of both charter and traditional public schools will be of value to the MATES board.

Carlos De los Rios, June 2012, Parent Board Member

Carlos De los Rios is a member of the Founding Board of Directors of MATES.  Mr. De Los Rios graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1982 and subsequently received a M.S., Engineer degree in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University in 1987. Mr. De los Rios provides expertise in project management, strategic planning, economic modeling and business plan development from 20 years in the oil and gas industry.

Marlo Hartsuyker, June 2012, Parent Board Member

Marlo Hartsuyker is a member of the Founding Board of Directors and is a past president of the Board of Directors. Ms. Hartsuyker graduated with a BA from UC Irvine in 1992 and subsequently received her Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1995. Ms. Hartsuyker is an active member of the State Bar of California. Her legal work experience involves all aspects of litigation. Her professional background provides the necessary legal experience to support the creation and future oversight of the legal components of the Charter School and Non-profit Corporation.

Patrick Hedges, June 2011, Parent Board Member

Patrick Hedges is a member of the Board of Directors of MATES.  Mr. Hedges graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1989 and subsequently received a Masters in Business Administration degree from UCLA in 1993. Mr. Hedges supplies expertise in strategic planning, project management and performance optimization process design gained from over 15 years operations management and consulting positions in the financial and business services industries.

Paul B. Lasiter is the Chief Financial Officer for Pepperdine University. He earned a B.S. in Accounting from Pepperdine University’s Seaver College in 1988. He also completed the Presidential and Key Executive program at Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management in 2005, earning an M.B.A. Paul began his career in public accounting with KPMG Peat Marwick and later served as Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller for Imperial Credit Industries. He has also served the University as its Controller from 2002 to 2006. Paul is a Certified Public Accountant and has over 20 years of banking and finance experience. Paul has also obtained certifications as an Accredited Fiduciary Investment Manager and a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor.

Marnee McLean, June 2011, Community Board Member

Marnee Mclean is the head of the Meadows Family Outreach Committee. She has a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from U.C.S.B. She received a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Antioch Univ., Santa Barbara. For two years she counseled children and families at the Santa Barbara Community Counseling Center. Following that, she worked as a school counselor in the L.A.U.S.D. for middle and high school students at risk. She now owns a business in the Thousand Oaks Community. With this background and experience she offers a foundation of support to our school and the surrounding community.
